Physician Computer Network Inc. to Market NextGen
HORSHAM, Pa. — MicroMed Healthcare Information Systems, a division of Quality Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:QSII - news) and the result of a recent combination of Clinitec International Inc. and MicroMed Healthcare Information Systems Inc., announced today an agreement with Physician Computer Network (PCN) under which PCN becomes an authorized value-added reseller of NextGen EMR.

PCN develops, markets and supports information technology within physician-based health-care organizations, including group practices, integrated delivery networks, MSOs, IPAs and other models of physician organizations. PCN's application software products address the financial, clinical, administrative and management needs of these organizations and facilitate connectivity between them and other health-care entities.

PCN markets its products through a direct sales force of approximately 40 people, as well as through a distribution network of more than 50 value-added resellers.

NextGen EMR is an innovative electronic medical records system designed to improve quality of care, reduce risk, cut costs and increase revenue. NextGen EMR creates and maintains complete medical records, streamlines workflow, controls utilization and manages critical data related to outcomes of patient care. It automatically creates documents and letters, generates prescriptions, stores clinical images, provides patient education and exchanges data with hospitals, labs and practice management systems.

The NextGen product suite also includes the optional NextGen Web Internet-based applications for health-care groups and networks. NextGen Web allows medical practices to achieve a higher level of communication with their patients by using the Internet. NextGen Web can include the following features:

  • patient access to parts of their medical record, including certain test results

  • patient access to health-education materials — direct patient input of demographic/insurance information, as well as medical and social histories patient-satisfaction surveys — appointment requests, confirmations and cancellations -- account review and electronic bill paying — links to other related/informative sites
