Mid-Atlantic Cardiology to Engineer Electronic Patient Record With NextGen and MicroMed
ATLANTA — MicroMed Healthcare Information Systems, a division of Quality Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: QSII), Thursday announced that Mid-Atlantic Cardiology in Morristown, N.J., has selected NextGen(R) EMR and NextGen EPM as the electronic medical record and practice management foundation of its enterprise.

Mid-Atlantic Cardiology's executive director, Sal Damiani, points to potential Y2K problems as the reason for starting the search. "However, it didn't take long for us to realize the potential value of the NextGen product, which is probably the best EMR system out there," he said.

"We also knew the importance of tight integration between the EMR and practice management systems," he added. "Couple that with our need for a Windows-based, scalable, open-platform product, and it was pretty clear that the NextGen solution was best for us. We believe that high quality information systems are critical to our mission: to provide high-quality, high-value cardiology services focused on improving the health status of the community."

"We were also impressed with the reputation Quality Systems has for support and service," he added. "We felt that any issues would be addressed without having to wade through a bureaucratic maze."

"We welcome the opportunity of helping Mid-Atlantic Cardiology build a state-of-the-art, enterprise system architecture," said Patrick Cline, president of MicroMed. "Together, the NextGen EPM and EMR systems will create a comprehensive solution that also happens to be a cutting-edge, industry-leading solution.

"NextGen's easy-to-use, comprehensive functionality, combined with its ability to improve care quality, reduce risk, lower costs and increase revenues, adds up to an asset that Mid-Atlantic Cardiology will leverage as it grows as a practice. We are extremely pleased to be working with such an innovative organization," Cline stated.
