Pa. MicroMed Healthcare Information Systems, a division
of Quality Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: QSII), Wednesday announced the
availability NextGenWEB, a suite of Internet- based applications
for health-care groups and networks, plus a number of Internet-based
services.
Under
development for the last year, NextGenWEB will allow medical practices
to achieve a higher level of communication with their patients
by using the Internet. NextGenWEB includes the following features
for patients:
Access to key parts of their medical record, including certain
test results; Access to health-education materials;
Direct input of demographic and insurance information, as well
as medical and social history; Patient-satisfaction surveys;
Appointment requests, confirmations and cancellations;
and Links to other related/informative sites.
As
part of NextGenWEB, MicroMed announced a service to design, develop
and host Web sites for its customers. MicroMed also announced
that its industry-leading clinical application, NextGenEMR, has
been enabled to operate over the Internet using a standard Web
browser.
Patrick
Cline, MicroMed's president, commented: "We are very excited about
the deployment of these new technologies. NextGenWEB facilitates
an unprecedented level of communication between doctor and patient,
while streamlining administrative tasks within the practice.
"Additionally,
the ability to deploy NextGenEMR via the Internet simplifies the
task of installing and maintaining an electronic medical record,
and reduces the total cost of ownership for the large, multilocation
medical groups."
Mid-Atlantic
Cardiology, a 24-provider cardiology group in Morristown, N.J.,
is one of the test sites for many of these new features. Mid-Atlantic's
president, Charles Marotta, M.D., said: "We're delighted to begin
offering this capability to our patients. MicroMed's technology
makes it possible."
The
MicroMed division is a result of the recently announced combination
of Clinitec International Inc. and MicroMed Healthcare Information
Systems Inc., both wholly owned subsidiaries of Quality Systems.
Quality
Systems is a leading provider of computer-based practice-management
systems for medical and dental group practices, with a customer
base of approximately 500 clients in 45 states, Canada and Saudi
Arabia.
