NextGen Healthcare and InterSystems Team with Missouri Health Connection to Enable On-Demand Health Information Exchange across the Care Continuum
Companies demonstrate cross-vendor interoperability; statewide health
information network to securely exchange actionable patient information
for improved care coordination and enhanced patient satisfaction
HORSHAM, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
NextGen
Healthcare Information Systems, LLC., a wholly owned subsidiary of Quality
Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: QSII) and a leading provider of healthcare
information systems and connectivity solutions, and InterSystems, a
global leader in software for connected healthcare, announced today that
the two companies have demonstrated cross-vendor interoperability to
enable on-demand, bi-directional data exchange with Missouri
Health Connection (MHC).
Through collaborative efforts, healthcare organizations connected to
MHC, Missouri's statewide health information exchange (HIE),—including
existing NextGen clients Jordan
Valley Community Health Center in Springfield, Mo., Family
Health Center in Columbia, Mo., Esse
Health and Grace
Hill Health Centers in St. Louis, Mo. —
can deploy the necessary software for aggregating patient data by using
a uniform user interface that enables providers to store and retrieve
data from multiple noncontiguous databases with a single query in real
time.
"Before the HIE, Jordan Valley Community Health Center providers
obtained their patient's medical history by calling other doctors who
treated the same patient, receiving faxed or mailed records, or using
secure email. The HIE is a safer and faster way for our healthcare
professionals to make sure they have the information they need to
provide their patients with the best care possible," said Matt Seebauer,
director of IT at Jordan Valley Community Health Center.
To demonstrate cross-vendor interoperability, InterSystems and NextGen
teams recently used their respective products to perform on-demand data
sharing. This type of "federated data sharing" helps create a more
connected, interoperable health system that leads to coordinated
treatment plans and optimized patient outcomes.
Through this level of interoperability, NextGen Healthcare clients can
communicate and share important clinical information via a secure and
integrated messaging service with any provider connected to the MHC,
regardless of their healthcare information technology vendor.
The Missouri Health Connection relies on the InterSystems HealthShare
informatics platform to provide strategic interoperability by delivering
shared medical information across a complex array of data sources,
applications and users. By gathering and normalizing data of multiple
types and sources, the platform also enables analytics based on
real-time operational data, driving meaningful actions at the point of
care.
"We have been pleased to collaborate with NextGen in the service of our
customer, the Missouri Health Connection. We have a common goal: to
enable healthcare providers across Missouri and neighboring states to
improve care quality, boost patient satisfaction, and reduce healthcare
costs," said Paul Grabscheid, vice president of strategic planning,
InterSystems. "Leveraging our technology platform for more connected
care, physicians and patients now have a single point of access, instead
of having to navigate a complex maze of information sources."
"Interoperability holds tremendous promise in the use of data derived
from patient care," said Michael Lovett, executive vice president and
general manager for NextGen Healthcare. "Through our collaborative
efforts, NextGen and InterSystems are breaking down walls to
interoperability and data fluidity. We are pleased to partner with
innovative companies like InterSystems in helping to fulfill our vision
of using technology to provide the healthcare industry with an
unprecedented level of data exchange."
