In early 1996, OSMC was running a software system that was non-expandable, slow and incapable of producing timely reports. OSMC was planning the opening of new facilities and recognized the need to partner with a healthcare technology leader to accommodate their anticipated growth and to satisfy their complex practice management requirements. OSMC selected Quality Systems (QSI) because they were convinced that QSI’s technology was superior to the competition in its functionality, and because QSI had extensive, demonstrated experience with large system implementations.
In May 1997, shortly after the QSI Medical System was installed, OSMC opened their new outpatient surgery center. The anticipated heavy volume materialized and, as expected, the QSI System managed the increase with ease. How much did volume increase? Even the staff at OSMC was surprised by the 200 surgical procedures per month being performed in their new surgery center. Additionally, their physical therapy center is now handling a heavy patient load of approximately 130 visits a day.
Don Hammond, Chief Executive Officer at OSMC says, “The QSI System manages all of our volume in our physician offices, at our surgery center, and at our therapy center, not to mention our three remote offices. Their highly efficient software handles everything and still has room for more growth!”
OSMC required that their selected system facilitate certain specific operational tasks, such as analyzing office productivity, tracking patient treatment and managing the financial aspects of the business. Don Hammond said, “We find the QSI ad-hoc reporting capabilities very useful and vital to the needs of the business. The QSI System gives us flexibility in methods of accessing the information we are collecting on our patients and services, thereby allowing the management team and the Board of Directors to make more informed decisions. Before QSI, we had no efficient method of retrieving the data in a usable format. With the QSI System, we can now collect and evaluate the information in almost any arrangement imaginable.”
QSI provided OSMC with a complete turnkey solution that included not only a wide variety of report writing capabilities, but also an Accounts Receivable/Billing component that efficiently manages patient billing procedures, an Appointment Scheduling system capable of scheduling multiple services for patients, and a Collection Processing application, among other functions. Robin McLaughlin, Director of Business Operations, says, “The Collection Processing application has performed to one-hundred percent of expectancy and has been an excellent tool for us.”
Within the orthopedics field, there are numerous areas of specialization,
and it is OSMC’s focused expertise that greatly enhances the care its patients
receive. With the successful partnership with Quality Systems, the physicians
at OSMC have been able to dedicate more time to their patients instead
of the business side of their practice. Behind this partnership are
the staff at QSI who draw from their own specialized knowledge to create
unique solutions to a wide variety of requests. QSI’s products and
services are provided solely for the healthcare management industry, and
it is this focused expertise that gives QSI the ability to consistently
meet our customer’s needs.
